We are part of the Flint Hills Region of Kansas and right next door to the Tallgrass
Prairie Preserve  and the Z-Bar Ranch. The third Saturday in September is time for the
famous
Hillsboro Arts and Crafts Fair  and Marion's Art in the Park. The only place in
America where the historic
Santa Fe Trail and the Chisholm Trail cross is in Marion
County! Be sure not to miss
Chingawassa Days  every first weekend of June in Marion
and
Old Settler's Day the last weekend in September.
There is also a rich
Mennonite heritage in Marion County. Hillsboro, the home of Tabor
College, is called 'Little Jerusalem' by the Mennonites. We had six beautiful ladies out
here to do the "
Walk to Emmaus" together. They had a peaceful time together with no
interruptions.
The Marion Reservoir has plenty of room for water
sports and jet skiers. There are plenty
of places to go
bird watching , bicycling and hiking around the Reservoir too.
I can hook you up with local artists who custom make
Victorian Rocking horses, hand
made
pottery and toad houses, and beautiful apparel and accessories spun from angora
wool.
ClayWorkS is where our local potter hangs out and make fantastic pottery.
The only sounds disturbing the nighttime tranquility are the soft hoot of an owl or the
steady tread of deer meandering through the tree-sheltered back yard. Nights are so dark
here that countless stars are visible; you can
clearly see the Milky Way.
There is nothing as refreshing and rejuvenating as an escape into the quietness of nature.
Our area has an abundance of wildlife, including whitetail deer, Canadian geese, Mallard
ducks, wild turkey, ring neck pheasant, bobwhite quail, and beaver. Now is a good time
to spot Bald Eagles soaring close to water. If you enjoy meandering through the wildlife
and parks lands we would be glad to direct you to some prime areas.
